When I read, and yes, it’s appropriate for me to qualify this statement with “when” because these days it’s so rare… But when I do, I like a book that either transports me to another world or will give me all the answers to the universe. The second kind I’ve yet to come across but The Hunger Games was pure adventure fantasy that I devoured. All three of them in three days.
I’ve mentioned it before and I know a few friends that will also proudly share how much they loved this piece of Young Adult fiction.
Despite the fact that I am not the intended demographic, the story of Katniss, an unlikely heroine in a post-apocalyptic battle for survival, spoke to me as she smashed stereotypes and went on a journey of self-discovery. But in a nutshell, it was great storytelling.
So great in fact that they are making a movie that comes out this spring, March 23, 2012.
I’m a little excited for it.
Images from the set have been tightly guarded and fans (think Twilight, Harry Potter proportions) chomp at the bit for any news. Today they released 8 movie posters with the lead characters.
My favorites: Rue and Katniss for sure…
