Boo! …But It’s Still August

by Sara on August 30, 2011

It’s not quite September, forget October, and already I’m feeling bombarded with Halloween costumes and decor ideas. What is it about this holiday that it creeps earlier and earlier every year? (creeps, get it?)

I have to say though I’ve seen some pretty awesome stuff out there. So much so that I just had to do a preliminary round up for some of my early faves.

Best Dressed:

For costumes, these kids are totally ROCKING IT:

and then this ridiculous cutie patootie:

Even more awesome? The mom knitted that candy corn ensemble.

I’m hoping for a family themed Star Wars costume this year, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. While we were all on the same page last month, the kids are now changing their minds daily. I was hoping to be C-3PO but more like Joan Rivers in Spaceballs.

You know like this:

Some how I don’t think it’s going to happen.

For Décor

I’m really loving this look: black, white and silver. A nice break from all the black and orange.

For Goodies

I love these simple Mummy ideas from The Idea Room - it looks so easy and so cute. The cupcakes she has on her blog are awesome too.

So far those are a few of my favorites.

What are you thinking for Halloween?

Too early? You can tell me.

Love the candy corn costume, and you totally need to send pictures if you paint yourself gold!

My older kid wants to be a storm trooper. So this means I’ll make the little one be yoda or chewbaca or something. Obvs! Last year? Batman & Robin :)

OK I love you even more for feeling the whole Star Wars vibe. I knew we were soul sisters.

Sadly Sara, I think Halloween marketing in September and October is the only bulwark left between retail companies starting to market Christmas in August.
While it seems early to me to be talking Halloween this early, I do totally get it when costumes are hand made.

cheers and best wishes with the 3 day

Thanks Joe – I’ve actually noticed a few stores launching Halloween and sneaking a few Christmas items here and there. And you are so right, homemade costumes require quite a bit of work, also no one wants to pay rush shipping charges on the Batman costumes.

I already bought a ton of decorations for our Halloween party! I can’t help myself when it comes to a theme party of any sort. LOVING these ideas, though! The little mummies are so cute!

The biggest hit food-wise last year were little pigs in a blanket where you wrapped the mini hot dogs in pieces of flour tortilla and then cut a sliver off the end so it looks like a toe nail and put a dab of ketchup on after they cook. A picture explains it better : http://realmommychronicles.com/?p=689

Can’t wait to see what you do this year!
