Podcasts

In my attempt to stay current with the times, I’ve also tried to learn what podcasting is all about. It’s pretty cool. Basically through your computer, iTunes or a free app like Stitcher for your phone you can download  or stream free audio programs. You can subscribe to the shows you like and get regular updates when new shows become available.

This is great for someone like me who can’t really have the TV on all day – because those Real Housewives just suck me in – but wants to be entertained.  I just go about my day with my iPhone earbuds in and get stuff done. I’ve noticed that I’m a thousand times more productive when I’m listening to something I like.

So here are some great podcasts that I recommend:

  • The Moth – These a short 15 minute live storytellers with a huge variety of topics and speakers. Sometimes hysterical, sometimes poignant – always entertaining. This was a great one recently: Margot Leitman & Vikki Kelleher: GrandSLAM Stories
  • The Parent Experiment – 2 Moms that banter about life with kids and all the other stuff that goes on. I’ve really enjoyed some of the experts they’ve had on too – this was a good one with Sugar Mama.
  • Piers Morgan – This is basically the audio content of his new show on CNN (minus the commercials, hee hee hee). I’ve just started to listen to this one and I like it, especially since I would never stay up late to watch his show.
  • BBC Global update – One of my biggest beefs with news these days is that it isn’t very global. Often because I don’t read the newspapers anymore (who has time for that?!) I’m reading headlines on Twitter or CNN and then I don’t really understand what’s going on in the world. Listening to this makes me feel just a little bit smarter. Plus the British accents are nice to listen to.

Happy listening and hope you are productive in your day! What’s on your podcast playlist?
