Shoes Glorious Shoes

Sometimes you see signs. Twice in one day I’ve been told to go check out Marais USA.

First, PureWow sent me an email with their love of summer white which profiled these amazing shoes.

Then I checked out Jordan  Ferney’s at Oh Happy Day and she has a great post on what to bring to Paris which also, low and behold profiled THE most adorable pair of ballet flats.

So I did heed the sign and now I’m totally in love.

Check out these lovelies over at Marais USA:

Father’s Day Surprise Thwarted – Trunk Club to Rescue

Jun 14, 2011 by

I will let you in on a little secret… here is what Alex is getting for Father’s Day… The Trunk Club.

But WHY I’m giving it to Alex requires a little bit of backstory…

After reading the terrific compilation of THE best Father’s Day gifts out there by Mommy Shorts readers (to which I even contributed, see NYC subway token cufflinks), I thought hmmm… What to get the perfect Dad?

Alex doesn’t wear cufflinks anymore… he wears jeans to work every day now, one of the perks of living in California and being your own boss.

So this Father’s Day, in addition to the obligatory paper maché picture frame and adorable photo made by the kiddos, my gift to Hubby was SUPPOSED to be an organized closet, actually two of them.

My friend who is a professional organizer suggested we barter: her organization skills for a download of whatever technology and blogging knowledge I have to offer.

Clearly, I am making out like a bandit in this transaction.

So this past Sunday, while Alex was at an off-site all day and all night, the plan was to rip apart our closets and finally purge 16 years of wardrobes, then spackle, paint and rebuild a gorgeous beautiful closet.

Well, we did – most of it.

He was supposed to come home to a perfectly finished closet. A newly organized way of life. A winner all around.

But then life threw in a little curve ball. You know, the one you are never expecting? And I was unable to finish it in time.  So instead of a perfect and beautifully organized closet, he came home to this:

And this…

Long story short… our bed is still COVERED with clothing and there is stuff EVERYWHERE. He had to sleep in the guest room because there was no room in our bed.

Nightmare right? Happy Father’s Day! Welcome home to your trashed house!!!

The good news…  he was still super psyched that the closests were finally going to be organized.  He didn’t let on that the giant disaster that was our bedroom was giving him palpitations. Did I mention that Alex is borderline neat-freak and compulsive organizer?

So even though he took the surprise in stride, I would like to surprise him for Father’s Day for real and I think I just heard about the most awesome gift ever to give him. It’s totally up his alley.

After purging his closet of all his old investment banking suits and tattered golf shirts, it became VERY clear to me that poor Alex never buys himself anything. And I guess I don’t really buy him clothes either. But he NEEDS clothes and he deserves new threads – desperately.

So… enter Trunk Club, the outfitter for men.

My friend, the organizer, just told me about it and this is COMPLETELY something for Alex. A sort of mail order personal shopper except they don’t have to actually go anywhere or commit to buy anything.  Sounds good right?

You sign up. Send all your measurements, style preferences, tastes and then briefly chat with a personal stylist. Next, they send a FedEx box of outfits to try on. The model is simple: keep what you love, return what you don’t using the prepaid shipping.

Never step inside a mall again. Pretty cool right?

I think he will love it because it definitely combines the technology world with the idea of looking sharp. Something I know if he had more free time he would invest in.

You can choose from some styled looks too:

Or this one:

So darling,

For Father’s Day in addition to this closet fiasco I’ve created in our bedroom, there will be a box, of hip stylish clothes from Trunk Club for you to try on.
Thank you for being the most awesome Dad to our two wonderful kids. Now you will be the best dressed, most organized Daddy on the block.

Love,

Wife

Bouquets to Art 2011

Mar 15, 2011 by

Last night, I was privy to attend the Opening Night Preview Party for this year’s Bouquets to Art at the deYoung Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco. My amazing mother-in-law, Susan, has been a long time member of the Fine Arts Museum Auxiliary, the group that sponsors and organizes the five-day fundraising event and I was really excited to attend.

The evening had a Spanish theme to it with Spanish music, décor, and tapas as the deYoung is getting ready to kick off its newest exhibition, Balenciaga and Spain, set to open on March 26th. The new exhibit will “examine the impact of Spain’s culture, history and art on one of its greatest artists, couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga” by showcasing some amazing outfits from the Balenciaga fashion vaults.  The best part is, if you are inspired by the designs, the House of Balenciaga today operates as part of the Gucci Group and you could pick up one of these lovelies online:

Balenciaga Ligne Papier A3 Handbag in Pomme

Bouquets to Art 2011 runs from March 15th through the 19th and features floral installations by the Bay Area’s prominent floral designers and garden clubs which are inspired by a piece from the deYoung’s permanent collection.  The arrangements range from abstract to literal translations of the masterpieces they pay homage to; each one truly unique and a piece of art in its own right.

If you have a chance, I highly recommend going this week to check it out. See here for extended hours and admission details.

If you can’t make it. Here are some pics I took from this year’s event:

If you go let me know what was your favorite, mine was the Edward Hopper piece (2nd to last photo).

Bringing back the original clog

Feb 2, 2011 by

I love shoes. I mean I – really –  LOVE shoes. But you wouldn’t know it from looking at my closet. Unfortunately, for a shoe lover, I’m a whooping size 10. Not a cute 7 or even an 8 but a gigantic 10. I used to be a respectable 9.5 and then after kids and my high arches started to plummet.

Because my feet are so big (and I’m kind of a klutz), I’ve always been hard on my shoes. So while I looove shoes, I rarely spend good money on them for fear of trashing them.

But I have rediscovered an old love… and I can’t wait to order these.

Dr. Scholl's Original clogs

Lately, I have been grossed out by the ugly clogs and wedges that are out there. Then I remembered the original Dr. Scholl’s clogs! Oh how I looooved these shoes. They were durable and kind of heavy but so great. If you nicked your ankle with the wooden sole it hurt like hell but they were indestructible. Now they come in totally cute colors too: giraffe, red suede, pink suede.  Yay!!
