Leprechauns, Clovers, Rainbows and Gold… St. Patrick’s Day Free Printables

Feb 23, 2011 by

We aren’t Irish. I think we may be a little Scotch if you go back far enough… but this fact will not stop me from trying to redeem myself this St. Patrick’s Day.

Last year, I totally blew it and my kids were the only ones that didn’t know we were supposed to try to “catch a leprechaun.”  Somehow I missed the ‘Mommy Memo’ about sprinkling the green glitter around your house, putting green food coloring in your toilet and leaving chocolate coins out for them to find.  Boy did I feel horrible!  Well, not this time! I’m getting ready… St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and I’m browsing the web to find some cute and FREE printables! Here’s what I’ve found so far (just click the image to go to the link):

St. Patrick's Day circles from TomKat Studios

St. Patrick’s Day Tag Free Printables via Hello, Good Gravy!

Subway Art from A Little Lovely

St. Patrick’s Day Free Printable Banner from Sandy Toes and popsicles

Cute stuff right?  Now to try to find instructions on how to build a leprechaun trap…

Lollipop Valentine Flowers No.2

Feb 7, 2011 by

Want another option to the Valentine lollipops featured at Skip to My Lou?

Here’s another take on it that is very pretty and requires less cutting!

Source: BHG.com, Design by Lisa Storms

From Better Homes and Gardens:

Lollipop Valentine Flowers

Use a scalloped circle punch to create the pretty floral cut for the tissue paper. Layer different colors of tissue paper on top of each other (using 20 layers works well), punch a hole in the middle, and top off with a lollipop.

BHG Editor’s tip: Punch 10 pieces of tissue paper at a time.

Doodle 4 Google

Feb 5, 2011 by

Is your little K-12th grader a budding Rembrandt? A potential Picasso? Then have them Doodle 4 Google and they could win a college scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for your school!

Google is running its fourth annual drawing competition where students compete to design the website’s logo according to a theme. This year’s theme is: “What I’d like to do someday.” Cute and educational right?

So what is a ‘Doodle’?
Besides the iconic Google icon that usually is on the web, from time to time Google will replace it with a themed decoration.

You’ve definitely seen it before – you just may not always know what it’s for. Luckily, you can find a full history and description of Doodles here going back to the first one in 2000 when the founders added a stick figure to the logo to signify that they were out of the office and attending Burning Man. (Love, love, love that side note!)

Google Doodle for New Year's 2011

A 2010 winner: Grades K-3 Makenzie Melton Grade 3 El Dorado Springs R-2 Schools El Dorado Springs, Missouri

I was really impressed by the amount of supporting materials Google provides for this competition. There are great downloads and suggestions for parents and teachers to get the kids involved in this fun project.  So click here and register your budding artists today!

IMPORTANT: You have to register by March 2nd and entries must be postmarked by March 16th.  So get those kiddos Doodling!
