I Want My MTV (The Old One)

Yesterday I posted about KidzBop and how I’m done with Katy Perry’s Firework as sung by a bunch of 8 year olds.

Today, I’m totally nostalgic for the way MTV used to be. Real music videos that resembled mini-movies.

Like, oh my gawd, totally.

KidzBop Kool But Kinda Kreepy

July 19th can’t come fast enough. Why? Because if I hear KidzBop 19 one more time in my car I might flip my lid.

The next volume – KidzBop 20 will be released on iTunes on July 19th.  Seriously, I’m so desperate to hear something new I just pre-ordered it.

For all you Mommies with kiddies under 3 you probably don’t know about KidzBop yet, but don’t worry, you will.

Trust Me.

So… What is it?

Well… it’s all the radio hits with the lyrics “cleaned up” and sung by kids. Yep, kids are belting out “DJ Got Us Falling in Love” and “Bulletproof.”

So far there are 20 volumes and several holiday specials and extreme ballad editions too.

Some of the cleaned up lyrics can be a little awkward at first but you get used to it and I will do anything not to listen to Dora over and over again.

My worst nightmare: this on REPEAT.

For example on KidzBop 19 they change the words to California Gurls by Katy Perry as follows:

Original:

“California girls, We’re unforgettable
Daisy Dukes, Bikinis on top
Sun-kissed skin, So hot, We’ll melt your Popsicle
Oooooh oh oooooh”

Becomes:

“California gurls, we’re unforgettable
Fine, fresh, fierce, we got it on lock
Sun-kissed beach, so hot, will melt your Popsicle
(Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh)
(Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh)”

It’s not perfect.

The kids are still singing about “melting Popsicles” and adult breakups, which I have to agree with Ray at Cover Me is still creepy.

But I’ll take it.

Better than trying to explain what Daisy Dukes are to my kids or why they can’t have a “gin and juice.”

The best part about the soon to be released Vol. 20 – they do a cover of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. YAY!

The song I’m least looking forward to: they do a cover of ‘Whip My Hair’ by Willow Smith. HELP ME!

I could do without that one but I’m seriously done listening to “Cooler Than Me”.

"Susan's Team" Victoria was there with me in 2000, walking in honor of my mom 3 months after she passed away.

As you’ve probably heard me say a few thousand times already, I’m walking in this year’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day in San Francisco. My team, Maidens for Mammograms and Margaritas will be completing our second walk in less than 9 weeks!

Walking with me this year, I am so excited to have my mother-in-law, Susan AND my sister-in-law Victoria. They are both incredibly special to me and I’m so honored that they are doing this with me.

They both knew my mother well (our families met when Alex and I were 15) and have been through all of my life’s ups and downs with me. They are not only family, they are two of my BEST friends.  I’m one of the very lucky people who has to fall quiet when anyone starts complaining about their in-laws because mine are, well – they are awesome.

So they’ve committed to walking with me and I’m really touched and  super grateful.

When I started blogging a little awhile ago, I didn’t think anyone would read these posts other than my friend Kristina who happened to be on the phone with me when I hit publish for the first time. So you can imagine my shock when I got an email from Dana at New Balance offering my team some of their 860 special edition Susan G. Komen ‘Lace Up For The Cure’ 3-day shoes!

And the best part…

They also kindly offered a pair for one very lucky Periwinkle Papillon reader!

Shoes Glorious Shoes

Sometimes you see signs. Twice in one day I’ve been told to go check out Marais USA.

First, PureWow sent me an email with their love of summer white which profiled these amazing shoes.

Then I checked out Jordan  Ferney’s at Oh Happy Day and she has a great post on what to bring to Paris which also, low and behold profiled THE most adorable pair of ballet flats.

I Want to Be A PinUp

The other day I tweeted about wanting to go to Burning Man, the annual art pilgrimage to the desert. I think it would be amazing, and I think this might be a clue that I might possibly be approaching some sort of midlife crisis. Why else would I want to go sweat it out in 110F degree heat under the blazing sun with a bunch of strangers?

One other thing that I’m adding to my bucket list, that is possibly part of this midlife crisis, is to be a pinup. Not in a calendar or anything but just for myself and maybe I would share it with my husband. Maybe.

To clarify, not a cheesy icky playboy pinup because, trust me, there is ZERO to photograph there, more like the vintage poster pinups. Those are so fun and so beautiful.

As I mentioned before, I listen to the Parent Experiment podcast, awhile ago they had an episode that featured Ambitious Misfit Photography where Colette talked about her vintage style and the pinups that she takes. So I checked them out.

And I want one.

Molly Ringwald has done it. So why can’t I do it too?

Problem is Collette never seems to be in Northern California. She travels all over the country and is based out of Southern California. She would come to the Bay Area if 5 or 6 ladies would want to get their portraits done.

So… Take a look, does anyone want to be a pinup with me?
