Your parent to-do list
Amy Graff ran this great list of 100 things all parents should teach their children on her blog Mommy Files. I did a little self-evaluation as a parent and got stuck on #4 – Brush and floss daily. Yeah they brush daily, but floss? Might need to work on that one…
In my own upbringing, the list was pretty well covered. Nice job folks. Except for #19 and #94.
#19 – Eat one bag (not three bags) of potato chips. If there were any Ruffles Ridges potato chips brought into the house, it was a scramble between my brother, mother and I to pretty much leave nothing but a greasy aluminum bag. Salt and vinegar varieties never made it home from the store. So on this one they got an D-, lesson definitely not learned.
#94 - Parallel park with ease. Ease being the operative word… still not my forté. The shouting matches during my parallel parking instruction were legendary, and the only reason I got my driver’s permit at 15 was because the DMV guy didn’t ask me to try.
On the positive side, my mom’s pow-wow with me on #54 – Have safe sex, was informative, enlightening and way too graphic. I’ll write more about that another time.
And the last lesson my mom taught me was #45 – Fight courageously, lose graciously. After a long drawn out battle with cancer, in the end, she personified grace.
So, how are you doing on this list?
