The Biebster

It took me a long time to come around to the Biebster. Justin Bieber that is.

I was like, what is the big friggin’ deal?! There have been boy bands before, one hit wonders that are generated by the music industry factories, but then I heard my five year old daughter bopping along to his song “Baby”… And I got it. The Bieber = Pure Joy.

While I had avoided the song on my iPod playlist, some way, some how, Anna had learned all the words to this song. There she was, sandwiched between her two friends in the backseat, all of them doing the most dramatic arm moves and most serious rock star faces I’d ever seen, all the while belting out the words:

And I was like baby, baby, baby, oh

Like baby, baby, baby, no

Like baby, baby, baby, oh

I thought you’d always be mine, mine

At least now I know why she is saying “Like” all the time!

I was supposed to be driving the girls straight home from a birthday party, but their energy was SO infectious that I took the longer route so I could sing along with 3 five-year olds and Justin a little longer. I couldn’t help the biggest smile on my face as I listened and watched from the rear view mirror as the girls giggled and laughed. It felt so great to be a part of such pure joy and happiness.

So thank you sweet Anna, for sharing that moment with me. I know it will not last forever and soon you will cringe when I turn up the volume and belt away. I promise not to embarrass you too badly as you get older. But for now, if you’ll let me, I will gladly sing along to any Justin Bieber song you like.
